मुमोच च शिलाः शैलो विशालाः समनःशिलाः।
मध्यमेनार्चिषा जुष्टा धूमराजीरिवानलः।।5.1.16।।
शैलः mountain, मध्यमेन in the midst, अर्चिषा by the flame, जुष्टा:possed with, अनलः fire, धूमराजीरिव like the columns of smoke, समनः शिलाः along with sulphur pigments, विशालाः big one, शिलाः boulders, मुमोच threw out, च even.
The mountain threw down big boulders along with sulphur just like fire emits columns of smoke, surrounded by flames.
गिरिणा पीड्यमानेन पीड्यमानानि सर्वतः।
गुहाविष्टानि भूतानि विनेदुर्विकृतैः स्वरैः।।5.1.17।।
गुहाविष्टानि of the caves, भूतानि creatures, पीड्यमानेन being pressed, गिरिणा by the mountain, सर्वतः all over, पीड्यमानानि on account of pressing, विकृतैः with horrible, स्वरैः voices, विनेदुः shrieked.
Squeezed on all sides of the mountain by Hanuman, all creatures living in the caves shrieked making horrible sounds .
स महासत्त्वसन्नादः शैलपीडानिमित्तजः।
पृथिवीं पूरयामास दिशश्चोपवनानि च।।5.1.18।।
शैलपीडानिमित्तजः caused by the crushing of the mountain, सः that, महासत्त्वसन्नादः loud noise of various creatures, पृथिवीम् the earth, दिशश्च all directions, उपवनानि च and the surrounding groves, पूरयामास filled.
Due to the crushing of the mountain, a loud noise of the various creatures shot up filling the earth in all directions and groves around.
शिरोभिः पृथुभिः सर्पा व्यक्तस्वस्तिकलक्षणैः।
वमन्तः पावकं घोरं ददंशुर्दशनैः शिलाः।।5.1.19।।
सर्पाः snakes, व्यक्तस्वस्तिकलक्षणैः with signs of swastika marks, पृथुभिः by wide ones, शिरोभिः with hoods, घोरम् terrible, पावकम् fire, वमन्तः poured out, दशनैः with fangs, शिलाः ददंशुः bit the rocks.
The snakes spread out their broad hoods manifesting swastika marks on them and bit the rocks with their fangs pouring out terrible fire.
तास्तदा सविषैर्दष्टाः कुपितैस्तैर्महाशिलाः।
जज्ज्वलुः पावकोद्दीप्ता बिभिदुश्च सहस्रधा।।5.1.20।।
तदा then, सविषैः by the venomous, कुपितैः by the angry, तैः by them, दष्टाः bitten, ताः महाशिलाः the huge rocks, पावकोददीप्ताः burnt by the flame, जज्वलुः burnt, सहस्रधा in a thousand pieces, बिभिदुश्च and broke.
Bitten by the venomous and angry snakes, the mountain was broken into a thousand pieces by the blazing flames.
यानि चौषधजालानि तस्मिन् जातानि पर्वते।
विषघ्नान्यपि नागानां न शेकुः शमितुं विषम्।।5.1.21।।
तस्मिन् पर्वते on that mountain, जातानि grown, यानि those, औषथजालानि medicinal herbs, विषघ्नान्यपि even those which can counteract poison, नागानाम् of the snakes, विषम् poison, शमितुम् to neutralize, न शेकुः were not able to.
Even the medicinal herbs grown on the mountain could not neutralize the effect of the poison of snakes.
भिद्यतेऽयं गिरिर्भूतैरिति मत्त्वा तपस्विनः।
त्रस्ता विद्याधरास्तस्मादुत्पेतुः स्त्री गणैः सह।।5.1.22।।
पानभूमिगतं हित्वा हैममासवभाजनम्।
पात्राणि च महार्हाणि करकांश्च हिरण्मयान्।।5.1.23।
लेह्यानुच्चावचान् भक्ष्यान् मांसानि विविधानि च।
आर्षभाणि च चर्माणि खडगांश्च कनकत्सरून्।।5.1.24।।
अयम् this, गिरिः mountain, भूतैः by creatures, भिद्यते broken, इति thus, मत्त्वा after, तपस्विनः ascetics, उत्पेतुः jumped up, विद्याधराः Vidyadharas, त्रस्ताः terrified, पानभूमिगतम् from the drinking places, हैमम् golden, आसवभाजनम् drinking cups, महार्हाणि valuable ones, करकांश्च goblets, उच्चावचान् various big and small ones, लेह्यान् food that is licked, भक्ष्यान् eatables, विविधानि of many kinds, मांसानि meat, आर्षभाणि of oxen, चर्माणि animal hides, कनकत्सरून् covered with golden sheaths, खडगांश्च swords, हित्वा after, स्त्रीगणैः सह along with groups of women, तस्मात् from that place, उत्पेतुः flew away.
Even the ascetics left the place approaching that the mountain would be broken into pieces by creatures. The alarmed vidyadharas leaped into the sky along with groups of their women, leaving behind golden jugs of wine as well as precious utensils, big and small sizes, and golden goblets, cups in the drinking place, as well as many tasty eatables like licking food, chewing food and many types of meat. They also left bullhides and swords with golden sheaths.
कृतकण्ठगुणाः क्षीबा रक्तमाल्यानुलेपनाः।
रक्ताक्षाः पुष्कराक्षाश्च गगनं प्रतिपेदिरे।।5.1.25।।
कृतकण्ठगुणाः wearing chains, क्षीबाः intoxicated ones, रक्तमाल्यानुलेपनाः wearing garlands and smearing with red unguents (sandalpaste), रक्ताक्षाः with red eyes, पुष्कराक्षाश्च with lotus like eyes, गगनम् to the sky, प्रतिपेदिरे flew into the sky.
The intoxicated vidyadharas with eyes red like lotuses, wearing garlands around the neck and smeared with red sandalpaste flew into the sky.
हारनूपुरकेयूरपारिहार्यधराः स्त्रियः।
विस्मिताः सस्मितास्तस्थुराकाशे रमणैः सह।।5.1.26।।
हारनूपुरकेयूरपारिहार्यधराः wearing necklaces, anklets and armlets, स्त्रियः women, विस्मिताः wonderstruck, सस्मिताः gently smiling, रमणैः सह with their lovers, आकाशे in the sky, तस्थुः stayed.
Adorned with necklaces, anklets and armlets, the vidyadharis stayed wonderstruck in the sky, smiling gently in the company of their lovers.
दर्शयन्तो महाविद्यां विद्याधरमहर्षयः।
सहितास्तस्थुराकाशे वीक्षाञ्चक्रुश्च पर्वतम्।।5.1.27।।
विद्याधरमहर्षयः the seers among vidyadharas, महाविद्याम् proficient in different fields of knowledge, दर्शयन्तः watching, सहिताः collectively, आकाशे in the sky, तस्थुः stayed, पर्वतम् mountain, वीक्षांचक्रुश्च were also watching.
The seers among the Vidyadharas, proficient in different fields of knowledge were also watching the mountain from the sky along with others.
शुश्रुवुश्च तदा शब्दमृषीणां भावितात्मनाम्।
चारणानां च सिद्धानां स्थितानां विमलेऽम्बरे।।5.1.28।।
तदा then, विमले in a pure, अम्बरे in the sky, स्थितानाम् of those stationed, चारणानाम् of charanas, सिद्धानाम् of siddhas, भावितात्मनाम् of highly, ऋषीणां च and of seers, शब्दम् sound, शुश्रुवुः heard.
Then the vidyadharas heard the words of praise(of Hanuman) by the sages, seekers of the ultimate truth, the charanas and the siddhas who stood and watched in the clear sky:
एष पर्वतसङ्काशो हनुमान् मारुतात्मजः।
तितीर्षति महावेगस्समुद्रं मकरालयम्।।5.1.29।।
पर्वतसङ्काशः resembling a mountain, मारुतात्मजः son of the windgod (Hanuman), महावेगः swift, एषः him, हनुमान् Hanuman, मकरालयम् abode of crocodiles, समुद्रम् ocean, तितीर्षति desiring to cross.
“Hanuman the son of the Windgod, who is like a mountain, with extraordinary might intends to cross the ocean, the abode of crocodiles”.
रामार्थं वानरार्थं च चिकीर्षन् कर्म दुष्करम्।
समुद्रस्य परं पारं दुष्प्रापं प्राप्तुमिच्छति।।5.1.30।।
रामार्थम् for the purpose of Rama, वानरार्थं च for the sake of vanaras also, दुष्करम् impossible, कर्म task, चिकीर्षन् desirous of achieving, समुद्रस्य of the ocean, दुष्प्रापम् difficult to reach, परं पारम् the other side, प्राप्तुम् to reach, इच्छति he wishes.
“For the sake of Rama and the vanaras he wants to reach the other shore of the ocean, which is difficult, and indeed impossible”.
इति विद्याधराः श्रुत्वा वचस्तेषां महात्मनाम्।
तमप्रमेयं ददृशुः पर्वते वानरर्षभम्।।5.1.31।।
विद्याधराः vidyadharas, इति thus, महात्मनाम् of great sages, तेषाम् of them, वचः word, श्रुत्वा having heard, पर्वते on the mountain, अप्रमेयम् beyond measure, वानरर्षभम् bull among the vanaras, Hanuman, तम् him, ददृशुः saw.
The vidyadharas heard the sages speaking in that manner on the mountain. They beheld Hanuman, the bull among vanaras, whose strength was beyond measure.
दुधुवे च स रोमाणि चकम्पे चाचलोपमः।
ननाद सुमहानादं सुमहानिव तोयदः।।5.1.32।।
अचलोपमः huge as mountain, सः he, रोमाणि hair, दुधुवे shook, चकम्पे च and moved, सुमहान् great, तोयदः इव like a cloud, सुमहानादम् huge sound, ननाद produced.
Hanuman, huge as a mountain moved his body and shook the hair on his body, thundering like a cloud.
आनुपूर्व्येण वृत्तं च लाङ्गूलं लोमभिश्चितम्।
उत्पतिष्यन् विचिक्षेप पक्षिराज इवोरगम्।।5.1.33।।
उत्पतिष्यन् ready to take off, आनुपूर्व्येण in an order, वृत्तम् covered, लोमभिः with hair, चितम् full of, लाङ्गूलम् tail, पक्षिराजः king of birds, उरगं इव like a serpent, विचिक्षेप shook, cast down.
Like the king of birds Garuda would shake a serpent, he shook his tail covered with hair in order to take off.
तस्य लाङ्गूलमाविद्धमात्तवेगस्य पृष्ठतः।
ददृशे गरुडेनेव ह्रियमाणो महोरगः।।5.1.34।।
आत्तवेगस्य of great, तस्य his, पृष्ठतः at the back, अविद्धम् curled, लाङ्गूलम् tail, गरुडेन by Garuda, ह्रियमाणः carried off, महोरगः इव like a big serpent, ददृशे appeared.
Hanuman had the tail curled at his back which appeared like a big serpent being carried off by Garuda.
बाहू संस्तम्भयामास महापरिघसन्निभौ।
ससाद च कपिः कट्यां चरणौ सञ्चुकोच च।।5.1.35।।
कपिः monkey, महापरिघसन्निभौ like huge iron clubs, बाहू arms, संस्तम्भयामास pressing down firmly , कट्याम् in the waist, ससाद crouched in, चरणौ his feet, सञ्चुकोच च contracted.
The monkey fixed his arms, looking like iron clubs, firmly on the mountain and
crouched his waist and contracted his feet.
संहृत्य च भुजौ श्रीमांस्तथैव च शिरोधराम्।
तेजः सत्त्वं तथा वीर्यमाविवेश स वीर्यवान्।।5.1.36।।
श्रीमान् glorious, वीर्यवान् courageous, सः Hanuman, भुजौ च even shoulders, तथैव च in the same way, शिरोधराम् his head, संहृत्य after contracting, तेजः glow, सत्त्वम् energy, तथा so also, वीर्यम् vigour, आविवेश summoned up.
The glorious and courageous Hanuman his head and shoulders contracted, summoned up all his energy and vigour.
